So, I know it has been a while since I last posted an article about food, but hey I need to work so that I can eat... LOL.
The food isn't very cheap here now a days, but we can manage until now. In the last couple of months I ate a lot and of course I made the pictures to prove it!
From restaurant week in Suriname to maroon day, Diwali and now Christmas a lot of food has happened to us. In Suriname we live for the food, every occasion or something we eat food. I will start with Restaurant week. Restaurant week is organized yearly ( 2 -3 times a year starting in April and then in September and sometimes December). The Restaurant week has a lunch and dinner menu at a fixed price for every restaurant. The menu is usually a three course meal with a starter, main dish and a dessert. Through Facebook they promote the menu's and you have to reserve before you go, because there is a possibility that you won't have a table. As you see on the 1th picture this was at a small Italian restaurant called Padre Nostro in downtown Paramaribo. The restaurant is small from the inside also, but does have a cozy feeling once you're in and it's owned by foreigners that have a great taste for European dishes. The staff is friendly and they have Suriname made Ice cream! I even tasted their flavors, and they were delicious, made of exotic Suriname fruits. I was there with my colleagues and everyone enjoyed their dish. Moving on to my next adventure during restaurant week we went to a restaurant were the food was very bad...or at least my food I ordered (I'm not going to post a picture, because it will fool you to believe that it was good). While we were sitting at that particular restaurant (Havana cuisine) I realized I hadn't reserved at any restaurant for Restaurant week with my partner so I decided to call last minute at all the restaurants that took part at the Restaurant week. Almost all of the famous ones were full so I picked one that we hadn't tried yet, because it had this great name for their dishes on the menu for Restaurant week . The second picture was our diner. We both took the same dish as the other dishes were made of beef or fish and none of us wanted to eat that. And it was a Turkish dish, as this Restaurant is owned by them. It was chicken in curry sauce and cooked potatoes (curry sauce) and seasoned with fried unions and garlic. I found it to taste different then the usual curry dishes locally, It definitely had that oriental taste that's not present in our local curry dishes. After the main course we ate a flan made the Oriental way, which was delicious by the way. Ow I forgot to mention my starter, which was a good treat, A chicken salad not heavy, but a great way to fuel your appetite.
Some sweet Indian dishes
The last picture is a combination of a lot sweets from Indian origin. (They have nothing to do with Restaurant week). This was from an Indian wedding we attended near "Weg Naar zee" at a place called RA Party place. Most of the times Indians hold weddings at their own homes, but when you don't have enough space to put a tent you rent a place and RA Party center is such a venue you can rent. So I will not post more of the main food, because I already wrote about it in my "Nauta eten" article. We attended the wedding of the groom and sat there while a band from Nickerie was playing some good dance songs (Hindi). All the people seemed in a happy mood as they were enjoying the music and food. At weddings people have all the reasons to wear their best outfit. So not only the bride and groom look their best, but the attendees at their weddings don't fail to impress (not everyone of course...lol) There were a lot of sweets and we were free to take what we wanted. So the picture below (last picture) is what I took on my plate. It has a coconut sugar ball (ladoo), a yellow barfi, a purple barfi, orange jalebi and a green coconut sugar ball.
