Suriname is a country in South America, but isn't considered as a part of Latin America. This beautiful country is counted among the Caribbean together with the neighboring countries Guyana and French Guiana. Suriname was a colony of the Netherlands and in 1975 this nation became independent. As an independent state, Suriname is very young and very well on it's way with some up and downs which is a typical phenomena of third world countries. We have a tropical climate with lot's of sun and rain.  You can sit here on your own porch or with your neighbors along the road with a beer or a Coke (not the drugs, lol!). By many, Suriname is seen as a special country around the world, why not? Given the cultural diversity and the (rather) harmony that prevails here, Suriname is indeed unique! Because of the different cultures (population groups) we also know a range of dishes. This blog's going to focus on what we people love the most in Suriname after each other: FOOD! From typical Surinamese dishes to international cuisine and of course the commentary that goes with it! I will try to write down my experiences with food regularly so you can enjoy the journey with me.

Sincerely,

Di-An (an honest foodie)
